GPO Museum

The GPO (General Post Office) is one of Ireland’s most iconic buildings and the award-winning GPO Museum is a must-see on any visit to Dublin.

The GPO is famous for being the headquarters of the 1916 Easter Rising which set in motion an unstoppable chain of events which would ultimately lead to the creation of the Irish Republic.

The museum tells the story of the key events which shaped modern Irish history including the 1916 Easter Rising, the Irish War of Independence, the Anglo-Irish Treaty, the Irish Civil War, and the Troubles and resulting peace process in Northern Ireland, including the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

Group Tours

GPO Museum offers various tour options and special rates for group bookings of ten or more people. The museum offers group rates to tour operators, school and college tours, special interest groups and corporate groups. Contact our reservations office for further details. Please note that groups must pre-book in order to avoid disappointment.

We also offer specially-researched tours on particular topics from the period, including the role of women, the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to the fight for Irish independence, the Anglo-Irish Treaty, the Irish Civil War, and the origins of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, among others.

Great place to visit. So much information. The museum has a lot of artifacts and interactive screens giving full details. The short film is amazing and makes it very real. 10/10. Definitely recommend.

Great experience and tour guide! Went with my university and we got a lovely tour from Katrina (one of the museum guides). She was excellent—super friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. The museum has a lot of cool artifacts too!

Excellent attraction. The tour guide Kim was wonderful, very knowledgeable and talked nonstop about the history. The museum is in the actual building where the rising took place and has very good displays and memorabilia. A good audio video display as well. Well worth a visit.
