110 years has passed since the 1916 Easter Rising and ten years since GPO Museum opened its doors as Dublin’s first museum dedicated purely to that event and Ireland’s revolutionary period more broadly. However, the ways in which we commemorate those events, and who we commemorate, have changed drastically in the century since. Questions over how to approach remembering and commemorating the foundation of the state have received different answers at different points in time.
Join GPO Museum’s team of seasoned tour guides as they reflect on how they approach researching and communicating these complex events in the present. Through a series of talks delving into a variety of themes such as gender, sexuality, and museum studies, GPO Museum’s guides will provide an opportunity to reflect on some of the challenges that have faced studying these events in the past, and to speculate on that study might develop in the future.
