Website Images Saving the City Tour

Join us at the GPO Museum as we commemorate those who, rather than fighting for one side or another in the Irish revolutionary period, struggled to save lives amidst the violence.

Focusing on the 1916 Rising, this specially researched tour will illustrate how the various emergency medical services active in Ireland at the time, both professional and voluntary, adapted to the unexpected surge of violence that gripped Dublin City during Easter Week 1916.

Central to this tour will be the extent to which political and religious ideologies, so often focused on in Irish history, were put to the side as hundreds of medical staff, volunteers, and others uninvolved in the fighting took to the streets to help save lives.

Booking is essential, as availability is limited. This specially researched tour will last approximately one hour, and patrons are welcome to enjoy our exhibition and café at their own leisure after the tour. There are plenty of artefacts, interactive screens, and even a film to explore!

Please note that this tour may not be suitable for children under the age of 12.
